So. I have a really good reason for not posting last week, and being late with the post this week. (But then don't I always?) Last Sunday Jason flew in! Yay! Welcome back to Canada, Jason! That morning was church, then I went to archery (where, I will have you know, I got a really bad sunburn), and got home just in time to go to the airport to pick up Jason and a friend who had visited him in Germany and flew back with him. This Sunday was hectic. I overslept, and then, as I was running to get my purse so that I could jump in the car and go to church, I discovered that our washing machine had leaked and flooded the laundry room, and was spilling over into the rest of the basement. Yikes. So Mom managed to shut down the machine to prevent more water in the basement, and as I was on my way to grab towels to start mopping up, she slipped and fell in the water! Long story short, I spent Sunday at the hospital with Mom making sure she hadn't broken her foot (which she hadn't, you'll be pleased to know), and had no energy left for blog writing by the time we got back. Everything worked out anyway, because my copy of the new Harry Potter came in the mail this morning! So of course I've read it, and am going to review it instead of Mad Kestrel, which is what I'd planned on talking about with you guys this week.

So. I may have to give up on keeping my "What I'm reading" updated. So much has happened since I last posted on here. I went to prom. I started my summer job. I graduated. I've actually been really busy, which I wasn't expecting. I don't know why, but I imagined that I would graduate and then I would sort of have this moment to breathe, relax, and devour a bunch of the books I have for my summer reading. Not so. But that's okay. It just means that my posts may have to be less book reviews and more book related stuff sometimes. I have accomplished a bit of reading since graduating, but mostly stuff on my ereader. I'm working on Homer's Odyssey right now in paperback (it's so pretty!), and when I do get into it, I really am enjoying it. However I seem to be easily distracted and begin reading other stuff and then before you know it, I've finished the other book instead of The Odyssey. I've decided on a schedule that I will definitely* be sticking to. (*Possibly. I hope. I will really, really try hard, okay?) Hey everyone! So... Its been a while. Understatement of the century, right there. In fact it has been a few months shy of a year since I last posted on this blog. Crazy, isn't it? A lot has happened since then. I'm going to focus on a few things non-book related and then maybe touch on a few book things. First off: I'm going to start posting on here again! I don't know exactly what my post schedule is going to look like right now, but I will have one, and as soon as I know what that's going to look like, you will be informed. In other news, I am not in Germany, and I haven't been for a long time. Jason remains in Germany until this summer. I stayed for about a month and a half, which I may talk about and share some photos of at some point in the future, but that future is not right now. I don't think Jason will be posting until that point in time, because he has enough work to do when he's just trying to keep up his blog, fromehtog.weebly.com, let alone this one, but we'll see if I can get him to cameo here once or twice. As well, I would like to apologize for my very rusty blog writing skills, but, as I already mentioned its been a while. I feel like I have a lot to say, and I don't exactly know where to start, so prepare yourself for a ramble-y post. Hello, everyone! This is just a quick update post, so that you can know how to keep up with me if you would like to, as I go on my year abroad for student exchange in Germany.
This is the blog that I am hoping to keep up. I am intending to have it as an in-depth look at a year abroad - rather than just skimming over the top, barely giving any information aside from "I went here. I did this. I got tired. I am happy." I am hoping to show what it is like, either as I do the exchange or afterwards. If you have any questions that you would like for me to answer, either now if I can, or later on as I can, please feel free to leave them either here or in the comments of one of the posts on my blog there. fromehtog.weebly.com Anyways, I hope you are all doing well! I am experiencing an odd sensation of both excitement, anticipation, and something else I can't quite describe, as there are only 8 days left until the day Elizabeth and I step on the plane! Wish us luck, and Stay Addicted! -Jason (Actually, I just remembered. One of my friends is super awesome and gave me a going away present of a book for the plane ride. It is literally the best present they could have given me - but it was/is a bit of a struggle to force myself to save it for the plane ride rather than read it right now. It is Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid. Any thoughts on it?) Hey guys. So, long time no see.
As you may have read from my last post, I am going to Germany in a few months, as is Elizabeth, with both of us having received scholarships for a school year abroad. We have less than three months until we leave(!!), and as you can imagine, that leaves us with a little bit of German to learn. Just a little. (Hint: that's sarcasm) I can't wait. I have been learning the language (Ich lerne Deutsch), but have a fair bit to go, so every time I think about being immersed in German, I scare myself into studying a little bit more, which is probably not a bad thing. I am also spending a lot of my spare time practically stalking the country Germany - googling random culture facts, reading American or Canadian to Germany expat or student exchange blogs, getting a basic idea of the names of the sixteen states and where they are, and other things, trying to get myself as prepared as possible for the trip. Can you tell I'm excited? I'm nervous too, but it is the good kind of nervous, the kind that keeps propelling you forward, that excites you despite your worries, and - most of all - keeps you focused on preparation. So yes, I have Germany on my mind (who wouldn't?). I also have exams coming up in a very short period of time (feel free to insert screams of fear and agony here), and fairly heavy course loads that I'm having to balance in the meanwhile, along with some fun extracurriculars - for example, I recently joined my school's podcast, which is extremely fun. I get to be a school journalist, using a type of platform that students, teachers, and staff will actually use and listen to. It gets me talking to people I wouldn't have talked to before, and going places or doing things I might not have before. Trying to keep up with it all, I have been neglecting this poor book blog, and it has gotten to the point where both Elizabeth and I have realized that for now, this blog won't work. It makes me very sad to say this (since I love writing for this blog so much), but for now, we have decided to stop writing new articles and updating the blog. With my life so busy (Elizabeth's is too), and only set to get more so (in all the best and most exciting ways), I haven't been able to give this book blog the time and effort it deserves. Hold on though - this does not necessarily mean that this blog is done forever. We may decide to pick this up again someday. We love books, and having this way to tell others about books we love (or maybe don't love) or to just talk to about book geek topics (such as the anticipation of reading a new book, or my notoriously picky ways in a book store). I will miss writing for this blog. If you want to keep up with me though, I am planning on running a blog to track/journal my exchange to Germany, and perhaps the bit of the summer leading up to it. I will be writing about everyday life, culture quirks I've discovered (in comparison to my native Canadian culture), and how it is to be on exchange, as well as related topics. I think it will be fun, and a great way to keep a record of my year. So for now, I guess this is good bye. But remember - Stay Addicted! -Jason Hello, everyone! First off, this cover isn't the same as the art on the book that I read, however, I couldn't find a picture of that cover that was compatible with the website, so I grabbed this one instead. I grabbed this book from the library when I didn't have much time, so I didn't really get the opportunity to think about whether or not I actually wanted to read it, I just checked it out and ran to my next class. I'm glad that that's what happened though, as if I'd given myself time to think, I'm sure that I'd never have picked it. Not specifically because it didn't look interesting, it did, but because it falls into a bit of a category that I don't normally read. So maybe I should start picking out books when I don't have enough time to think about what I'm picking out more often, because I have to say that I really enjoyed this. Hello, everyone! I hope that the last two weeks for you have been just as great as they have been for me - because that would mean that they have been fantastic! I'm sure that you remember Elizabeth's announcement from not too long ago, how she got a scholarship to Germany for a school year. Well, I too had applied for the scholarship, and just over a week ago my family got a call saying that I also had gotten the scholarship - meaning we are both going to Germany for the school year next year! I am over the moon with excitement, and couldn't be happier. I wish I could say the same thing about a book I read recently, We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. It is not that it was bad - I just feel that all the excitement and all of the hype that was being placed on it last summer was not entirely warranted. Hey everyone! Jason's got some exciting news, but I'll let him tell you all about it next week. I'm aware that this isn't a review post, which means that this is the second week in a row where you are going to just read our rambling, but that's okay. Rambling is fun. Today I'm going to ramble on about libraries, in no particular order. My first point is simply going to be that libraries are absolutely wonderful places. I love them, which isn't entirely because they are full of books, although that is the majority of the reason. We're just going to assume that, we all know that that's a huge piece of it, so I'm not even going to bother. Well maybe. But for now, I'm going to go over all the other pluses. Cool? Cool. |
AuthorsJason and Elizabeth are brother and sister book addicts who somehow manage to get along (most of the time). They reside in Canada with their dog Becky, and one (slightly insane) fly-hunting cat named Fish. Oh. And their parents. They're important too. Archives
