Jane lost her mother to ALS when she was fairly young, and ever since her father has put her into whatever high-class boarding school will take her. Expelled from 13 boarding schools in the past 5 years, Jane has finally been brought back to Bienville, Alabama, which is where she grew up until her mother died, to live with her Grandmother. There, she is forced to try out for the Magnolia Maids, and, to everyone's surprise... she makes it. What follows is Jane's (often hilarious) misadventures as she declares war on Ms. Upton (one of the organizers of the Maids), and ushers in the most memorable Magnolia Maids firsts of all times.
Honestly, though, you should go and read the Goodreads description, because mine just makes it sound childish, and it's not. As far as I am concerned, the only real problem with this book is that there is no sequel. Which, thinking on it, probably isn't that terrible of a thing after all, because many authors manage to ruin the first book with a terrible second one. All of the characters in the story are well-formed, and by the end of it, you feel like you know them. This story is told by Jane, so you really only get her perspective at first, but as she gets to know everyone, you get to see everyone else's personalities shine through too. For the record, my favourite character was not Jane (sorry Jane). My favourite character was Brandi-Lynn, who is just so sweet! I just loved all of the characters. They were so real, and they weren't Mary-Sue's, and even though they aren't all necessarily pleased about being on the court, they make the best of it. Watch out Bienville, because the new diversified Maids are coming, and they are like nothing you have ever seen before (Jane and the rest of the Maids are often setting 'Firsts' for the Maids, one of which was to get arrested for underage drinking and getting thrown in jail. Like I said, watch out!). There really isn't much more to say except that you need to go and get this book. I vaguely remember it being around 7-ish dollars when I got it (it's been a while), which isn't bad.

Hi everyone! It's back to school time once again, which means more homework and less reading, but I promise that I will read enough in order to be able to put up my reviews still. Oh! Fun Fact that will make the rest of the story that I'm about to tell you make more sense: I like pens. Whenever possible I write with a pen, and when I have to use a pencil, I go for the mechanical kind. I like pens with either black ink or a cool colour (blue ink is just so.... boring). I once got this pen from the dollar store, and it was amazing. It had liquid ink, which is what makes a pen that is writing in black ink great. This pen was also an extremely ugly blue and white marbled plastic, which (I'm convinced) is the only reason they don't still stock it. Every year since I had that pen, generally around back to school time, I go to the dollar store, and try to find something similar. This year, I ended up with a fountain pen. Not similar at all (although it has liquid ink), but it was just so cool, and it came with a free refill. I don't use it often, because you have to hold it on a specific angle to get it to write, and I don't have time for that when I'm taking notes in school, however, it is still a noteworthy pen. Oh, you didn't need to hear all about pens? Sorry! I can promise that the book will make up for it though!

AuthorsJason and Elizabeth are brother and sister book addicts who somehow manage to get along (most of the time). They reside in Canada with their dog Becky, and one (slightly insane) fly-hunting cat named Fish. Oh. And their parents. They're important too. Archives
